Redwine Creek - Proof of Concept Channel Improvements HEC-RAS Model and Results
The Hurricane Creek Channel Improvements HEC-RAS version 6.3.1 model was developed by Freese and Nichols, Inc. (FNI) as part of the Louisiana Watershed Initiative (LWI) modeling program and is located in the LWI modeling Region 2. This is a 1D-2D model that leverages internal inflows developed by the DU HEC-HMS Atlas 14 Everywhere model. The modeled streams include: Redwine Creek and tributaries. The terrain used for modeling primarily sources the 2021 Department of Transportation and Development LiDAR with bathymetry incorporated from surveys conducted by Nixon Engineering in 2022. The model and terrain use the vertical datum NAVD88 and the State-Plane projection NAD 1983 (2011) State Plane Louisiana North FIPS 1701 (US Feet). Plans are provided for both existing and proposed conditions, covering storm events of 5-year, 10-year, 25-year, 50-year, 100-year, 200-year, and 500-year frequencies.
This model was developed as part of LWI program. It applies Atlas 14 rainfall to Redwine Creek and its tributaries to evaluate whether the proposed channel improvements effectively reduce flooding in the area.
