LWI Region 5 Mermentau Headwaters - HEC-RAS Simulation: Laura 2020 Calibration

On August 27, 2020, Hurricane Laura made landfall in Cameron, Louisiana, as a category 4 hurricane. Hurricane Laura is the strongest hurricane to hit Southwest Louisiana since records began in 1851. Hurricane Laura caused wind damage to buildings and trees across Louisiana. Due to the quick movement of Hurricane Laura, the maximum measured rainfall was recorded as 11.74 inches 2 miles ENE of Starks, LA (NWS n.d.g). The period of August 25 to September 4, 2020, is simulated in the HEC-RAS model. Hurricane Laura was a tropical event with a short storm duration.

This is the Laura Calibration 2020 Flood Run for the Mermentau Headwaters combined model. The hydrology for this event is derived from HEC-HMS model developed by HDR for Mermentau Headwaters region.
