LWI Region 5 Mermentau Headwaters - HEC-RAS Simulation: Barry 2019 Validation
On July 13, 2019, Hurricane Barry made landfall 12 miles east-southeast of Pecan Island, Louisiana, as a category 1 hurricane. Street flooding was seen across Louisiana and high wind-gusts caused power outages and downed trees. Rainfall of up to 20 inches was observed in Evangeline Parish (the parish Basile is located in) (NWS n.d.f). The period of July 9 to July 25, 2019, is modeled in HEC-RAS. Hurricane Barry was a tropical event with a short storm duration. This is the Barry 2019 Validation Flood Run for the Mermentau Headwaters combined model. The hydrology for this event is derived from HEC-HMS model developed by HDR for Mermentau Headwaters region.
